The Medical Alumni Association of the University of Toronto is an independent association funded by U of T MD alumni, working in partnership with the Faculty of Medicine.
The MAA raises funds to provide financial assistance to medical students and connects alumni.
The Medical Alumni Association of the University of Toronto (MAA) is a nonprofit organization registered with the Canada Revenue Agency (Scholarship Bursary & Education Committee Medical Alumni Association of University of Toronto). This charitable status allows the MAA to issue tax receipts for donations made in support of financial assistance to medical students.
The MAA is an autonomous association governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, elected by the Members at the Annual General Meeting. The Board determines the policies, programs and budgets of the MAA. View our current Board of Directors.
The MAA relies on donations and bequests from members for funding. We do not charge a membership fee - although a contribution from all new members as they join the ranks is most welcome!
The MAA has established endowments that have been invested to generate revenue, which help fund our programs. The MAA has its own fundraising appeals and collects donations from members who wish to support MAA programs. There are no membership fees. Our independence allows the Board of Directors to make policy decisions independent from the university and its funding priorities.

The Medical Alumni Association (MAA) dates back to an organization which began in the 1890s.
The Medical Alumni Association of the University of Toronto was incorporated by Letters Patent on April 28, 1947. This is when the MAA established that its major purpose was to raise funds for students and graduates and to assist them with loans and bursaries toward the completion of their studies. The MAA is the only independent alumni association at the University of Toronto.
